H2-South Tyrol Hydrogen Centre

Idea, project and partners

Storing renewable energy in the form of hydrogen and distributing it as a “made in South Tyrol” fuel to emission-free vehicles is one of the aims of the H2 South Tyrol project, and it is for this reason that the Hydrogen Centre in Bozen South has been established in close cooperation with the Brennerautobahn AG operating the A22 motorway and financed by the European Regional Development Fund.

Partnership between Iberdrola and IIT

Iberdrola, one of the world's leading companies in renewable energy, and the IIT have decided to work together. At the heart of this cooperation is "green" hydrogen".

"Green" hydrogen thanks to renewable energy

In the Hydrogen Centre in Bozen/Bolzano "green", i.e. 100% emission free, hydrogen is produced. This is possible as renewable energy (as testified by this Alperia certificate) is used in the electrolysis process.

Transiting the Brenner pass via fuel cell

The Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Truck prototype has completed a series of test drives in South Tyrol. The basis: the Hydrogen Centre in Bozen/Bolzano.
